Minimum Requirements: Incumbent must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent + 2 years related experience in an operator or field technician position in a related environment (specialized education or Vo-Tech training may substitute for experience. In addition, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate good judgment and ability to read and comprehend explicit operating procedures and site processes.
Must be able to pass respiratory screening requirements and be physically/mentally capable of donning and wearing a protective mask/equipment in emergency situations.
Must be able to obtain and maintain certification under the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP).
Job Description: SUMMARY:
Under daily direction of the Training Support Team Supervisor performs duties necessary to facilitate toxic training area to set up training bays and prepare the normal Doff and Emergency Doff areas. Supports “hot” trash work on days when GB or VX nerve agents are manufactured and bottled. Serves as the Emergency Response Team (ERT) on site during business hours. Performs movement control and agent handling duties in compliance with Chemical Defense Training Facility (CDTF). Upon completion of Toxic Agent Support duties, perform secondary duties to include ground maintenance, general operations and maintenance tasks, and assist Air Monitoring personnel with non-technical maintenance of equipment in the toxic training area.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
1. Don chemical protective gear and operate in a toxic training area (an area within stringent environmental controls and all personnel who enter this area during training are outfitted in military protective gear at a level of protection known as Mission-Oriented Protective Posture Level 4 (MOPP-IV)).
2. When working with water an additional level of protection is required and necessitates wear of a vinyl Toxicological Protective Apron (TAP).
3. Prepares the toxic training area before the students and instructors prior to a scheduled training session to set up training bays and prepare the normal Doff and Emergency Doff areas.
4. Processes expendable material generated during the training session that may have been exposed to minimal quantities of nerve agent “hot” trash and assists students with any problems that may occur including emergency cutouts.
5. Cleans the training bays and the Doff Areas after completion of the training session.
6. Supports “hot” trash work on days when GB or VX nerve agents are manufactured and bottled.
7. Serves as the Emergency Response Team (ERT) onsite at CDTF during business hours sitting outside the laboratory in MOPP II (a lesser level of protection not requiring wear of mask and gloves) while agent is being made and/or bottled.
8. Trained in the sample collection technique of Depot Area Air Monitoring System (DAAMS) used to collect air samples for detection and quantification of low-level contamination.
9. Upon completion of Toxic Agent Support (TAT) duties and in coordination with the Project Manager and/or Deputy Project Manager, reallocate labor resources to assist with but not limited to (secondary duties):
- General operations and maintenance tasks
- Air Monitoring personnel with non-technical maintenance of equipment in the toxic training area
- Grounds maintenance and the safe operation of equipment (self-propelled and riding mowers, weed trimmers, edger and other gas-operated and manual gardening tools)
- Load and unload material and equipment such as equipment parts, plants, mulch, etc.
- Attain and maintain Operations Center/Safety Control (OC/SC) certification to provide backup assistance when required.
10. Performs movement control duties.
11. Performs agent handling duties in accordance with CDTF Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition, the incumbent must accept the responsibility for maintaining the safety of themselves and others by adhering to all written and verbal instructions, promptly reporting and/or correcting all hazards or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to site leads and management on all safety issues.
PROCEDURE COMPLIANCE:
Incumbent must read and understand the general and specific operational, safety, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to this job and sign a statement acknowledging and accepting the requirement to perform all procedural steps without deviation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily works in an industrial environment wearing the appropriate personnel protective equipment. Personnel are subject to loud noises and outside weather conditions. Between 24 - 30 hours per week routinely involves work in a hazardous, contaminated area while wearing military chemical protective equipment. Must be able to acknowledge and respond to flashing lights and sirens and be able to don a protective mask and evacuate in an expeditious manner.

Ability to walk, stoop and bend. Frequently lift items weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. May be required in an emergency situation in the toxic training area to exceed the 50 pound weight limit when performing a cut out/DOFF procedures on a student who would have to be lifted for transfer to a gurney in the medical room. Work will be strenuous, hot and confining. Stamina and good physical fitness, including respiratory fitness are of paramount importance.
Expected to operate up to four (4) hours per day (with occasional, infrequent requirements up to six (6) hours per day, with medical clearance) for a maximum of 24 hours wearing MOPP IV inside the toxic training area each week.
Medical authorization must be granted in order to exceed 24 hours in MOPP IV per any given week. Additional hours of wearing the protective ensemble (without being masked) can and will exceed the 4-5 hour per day and 24-hour per week limitations.
