We have a number of Trainee & Apprentice opportunities across the UK & Ireland within our Building Engineering business line\. Our Infrastructure & Sustainability division currently consists of approximately 100 staff based across offices in Chelmsford, London and Basingstoke\. We are currently seeking School Leavers to join our successful Infrastructure team in Basingstoke as Trainee Technicians\. As a Trainee Technician you will learn skills in the design and construction of a range of Infrastructure development projects, principally in the fields of highways, drainage and utilities\. We can offer a wide range of project experience and our clients/sectors include Industrial/Commercial/Housing Developments, Shopping Centres, Airports, Ports and Education\.
Selected candidates will work on projects from initial concept through to construction and operation on a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients\. Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international highway and infrastructure improvements\. We will be looking for the successful candidates to start from Summer 2015 onwards, but will be flexible on start dates where possible\.
Our Structured Training Excellence Programme \(STEP\) is designed to recruit school\-leavers who show commitment, aptitude and enthusiasm, into science, engineering and technology careers with us\. You will combine work\-based on\-the\-job training and learning with further studies and must be willing to progress your career\. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at a Further Education College to study a BTEC Level 3 or HND in a relevant discipline which would be funded by AECOM\. Your NVQ Level 3 will be achieved during this time through your work experience\. In conjunction with this, you will also be encouraged to pursue an EngTech qualification with the Institution of Civil Engineers, or similar body\.
Driven by the successful completion of BTEC Level 3 or a HND the successful applicant may want to continue their studies at a higher level\. AECOM fully expects this and is keen to develop and nurture its talent\. For those wishing to progress their education AECOM may continue to support individuals through an appropriate part\-time BSc/BEng degree course to support you towards achieving Incorporated Engineer status\.

Job Description
Selected candidates will be enrolled on our Structured Training Excellence Programme \(STEP\) and have the opportunity to develop their skills within a supporting environment which encourages challenge and collaborative behaviours\. Working under the supervision of Engineers and Senior Technicians, candidates will use industry leading computer software and BIM modelling programs while working on a variety of different projects to initially develop expertise in:
•Use of 2D and 3D drawing/modelling software
•Undertaking simple highway link road and junction feasibility studies
•Testing junction designs with vehicle swept path analysis software
•Traffic sign design
•Preparation and compilation of technical/planning/contract drawings and reports
And, as a candidate’s expertise develops, leading on to:
•Interpretation of design standards to design and model more complex highway designs
•Interpretation of design standards to design and model more complex junction designs
•Pavement analysis and design
•Drainage analysis and design
•Utility layout and diversion recording
•Streetscape design
Early work with us will typically be working in a team environment assisting in the development of our designs through the different stages\.
**Minimum Requirements**
AECOM has opportunities for school leavers, qualified to either GCSE level or A\-level standard \(or equivalent\) to join our accomplished team within the Building Engineering sector, to be based in our Basingstoke office\.
The position on offer will be to work within the Civil Engineering team\.
This team undertake a range of projects including highways schemes, drainage schemes, site feasibility studies, flood risk assessments and ground modelling\.
No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at either GCSE or A\-Level standard \(or equivalent\) who can:
•Show an aptitude towards software\-based engineering and drawing e\.g\. Computer Aided Design \(CAD\) and other similar 3D software
•Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Civil Engineering
•Commitment to continued education and improvement through on\-the\-job learning and training opportunities\.
•Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic
•Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
•Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects
•English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
**Preferred Qualifications**
**A minimum of five GCSEs grade C or above which must include English, Maths, Science and a technology related subject\.**
**We ask that you must have a B or above in GCSE Maths in order to cope with the demands of the course and work\.**
