• Must be familiar with field investigation techniques, laboratory analyses and waste characterization criteria, human health screening criteria, interpretation of geologic and chemical data for surface water, soil, soil gas and groundwater and be capable to prepare and complete reports summarizing field procedures and results
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently with other personnel, project teaming partners, agency representatives, clients, and contracted service providers
• Ability to perform field tasks including site reconnaissance mapping, drilling and trenching explorations, and construction site monitoring and testing
• Remote Alaska field experience
• A valid driver's license is required
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
Job Description: The Anchorage, Alaska office of AECOM seeks a full-time geologist/environmental scientist to support Environmental, Engineering, Planning and Permitting Projects in Alaska.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Perform lithological logging, collection of soil and groundwater samples, well installation and aquifer testing
• Conduct analytical data analysis, report preparation, evaluation of alternatives, data summaries, developing and managing tasks and/or small projects from work plans, report preparation, budget / proposal preparation and overall task coordination with limited supervision
• Coordinate and oversee a variety of drilling / subsurface investigation techniques, preparation of log borings in accordance with USCS, and subcontractor oversight/management
• Will conduct geologic and geomorphic mapping
• Assist with exploratory boring drilling and logging
• Collect soil, water, and rock samples
• Install monitoring wells, inclinometers and other instrumentation
• Provide fieldwork oversight of subcontractors
• Evaluate exploratory test pits and trenches
• Conduct geophysical surveys and other in situ testing
• Observe and monitor construction activities for large civil projects
• Prepare boring log development, data analysis summary, generation of subsurface cross sections and profiles, and report writing
• Assist with developing and managing tasks and/or small projects from budget and proposal preparation, development of the work plan, overall task coordination with limited supervision, coordinating and overseeing a variety of drilling/subsurface investigation techniques, through report preparation
