Our global network of top\-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries\. **Job Summary** Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a **Principal Engineer** with strong experience of bridge design and focus on rail infrastructure\. In recent years, AECOM has developed and expanded its work in the rail sector, to the extent that it is one of the leading UK consultants for the design of railway infrastructure\. Due to an increasing and diverse workload with rail infrastructure projects, there is an opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join our team in Birmingham City Centre with experience in developing a range of infrastructure solutions from initial concept through to detailed design for implementation\. The Birmingham office has an established track record of successfully delivering major transport schemes\. Our modern office in the heart of Birmingham has good transport links and accommodates a multi\-disciplinary transport design center\. We are now looking to enhance and grow the team with individuals with a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload A list of some of the projects we are currently working on in the Birmingham office are: + Network Rail bridge maintenance + Network Rail assessments framework + Birmingham New Street Station + Inspection, testing, feasibility and design schemes of railway footbridges + Access for all \(AfA\) footbridges + Platform Extensions + A range of new railway bridges in the Midlands region and Wales + Independent design checking of major steel\-concrete composite highway bridges The team workload ranges from feasibility studies to scheme designs, detailed designs, assessments, inspections, construction support and management services on a wide range of bridges and associate railway infrastructure schemes\. The team is involved in local, national and international work with a variety of clients both from the public and private sector including design & build partnerships with contractors\. Our current portfolio of work comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international bridges and structures projects\. Job Responsibilities: + Effectively control commercial, managerial and technical aspects of projects or parts thereof for which you are responsible\. + Preparing fee proposals for submission to client, including resources and program\. + Leading a team of engineers and technicians designing transportation structures including bridges and railway structures\. + Undertaking bridge design and assessment projects, performing analyses and calculations as appropriate\. + Supervising work, ensuring that it is carried out to the appropriate technical standard and that it is managed to program and budget\. **Minimum Requirements** + The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with a BEng or MEng degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent\. + Full lifecycle experience across a range of projects, including new\-build, refurbishment and assessment work relating to bridges and rail structures\. + Ability to deliver design solutions, assessment calculations, lead teams and successfully manage projects\. + Ability to demonstrate experience and understanding of Health, Safety and Welfare including CDM responsibilities\. + A solid track record having worked on a variety of projects, possibly as a project leader on some, with experience of dealing directly with clients\. + A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and a Chartered Engineer\. + You will have a flexible approach to supporting the project and business development activities across wider AECOM geographies, for example in Mainland Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa\. + Proven design and project management experience delivering multi\-disciplinary projects to quality, time and budget\. **Preferred Qualifications** A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills\.
