AECOM Government Services supports the U\.S\. federal government with worldwide program management, planning, design, operations and maintenance, logistics, aviation services, security, international development, environmental and civil engineering and mission and intelligence support\. **Job Summary** AECOM has an exciting opportunity as a **Welder** in Afghanistan on the MOSC\-A contract\. Performs a variety of general and specific metal welding fabrication and repairs to include: operation of plasma utters, oxyacetylene torches and MIG, TIG, and ARC welding machines to repair or fabricate items made of ferrous and non\-ferrous metals\. Performs PMCS and operator level maintenance on oxygen\-acetylene torches, plasma cutting machines and various welding machines\. Fabricates large variety of parts and special projects as required utilizing various grinders, drilling machines, hand tools, shearing machines and manual metal brake machines\. Welds components in flat, vertical or overhead positions\. Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits\. Clamps, holds, tack\-welds, heat\-bends, grinds and/or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding\. Upon detection of faulty equipment and/or defective materials, notifies supervisors\. Operates manual or semi\-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux\-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding and submerged arc welding\. Monitors the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material\. Recognizes, sets up and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment\. Positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers\. Performs other duties as assigned\. **Minimum Requirements** + High school diploma or equivalent required\. + Must have an active NACI\. + AWS welding certificate from a vocational academy or equivalent required\. + 3\-4 years welding experience required\. + Must maintain a welding certification\. + Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs and maintenance\. + Must be able to pass Welding trade skill PQS and internal validation testing within 30 days of hire\. + Must have basic knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models\. + Must be able to read and understand blue print drawings and sketches\. + Must have strong troubleshooting and math skills\. + Must have excellent English communications skills, both oral and written\. + Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively during a 77 hour work week\. + Must be able to lift 25 Lbs\. continuously, 50 Lbs intermittently\. + Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures\. + Must be able to endure long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions\.
