Job Description: URS Corporation is seeking Platform Engineers to be based in our Richland, Washington location. The Platform Engineers will support a full scale vessel testing program described below. URS is teamed with Bechtel in designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington State. The $12.2 billion project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects—equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory. The full scale test program is intended provide data to close technical issues relating to mixing in pulse jet mixed vessels in the WTP. The testing will involve multiple test platforms ranging up to full scale, a range of simulant conditions and diverse data gathering and analysis techniques to evaluate mixing performance in the WTP. Included in the testing is the assessment of the measurement capability and effectiveness of controls and instrumentation equipment used in pulse jet mixed vessels in the WTP. The data from the test program will be used to support the engineering design verification to WTP and also in support of ongoing full scale performance testing of pulse jet mixed vessels. The Platform Engineer is responsible for the following tasks: •Support the Responsible Engineer for test platform modifications and test vessel procurement •Interface with Design Completion Team (DCT) representatives for new test equipment needs Interface with respective Test Directors for research of new test platform equipment and the ability to provide required test data •Identify and draft technical requirements/specifications for procurement of new and unique platform equipment •Review of subcontractor technical submittals including design drawings, specifications, equipment data, plans/procedures, and provide comments for disposition •Perform engineering technical evaluations of subcontractor proposals to ensure the technical basis for the proposed work is adequately understood by the subcontractor and addressed in the proposal •Oversee subcontractor troubleshooting for mechanical & process issues on FSVT test platform (may require on-call availability during night shift and weekend testing operations) •Oversight of fabrication, construction, and startup/commissioning of test platform modifications •Respond to Request for Information (RFI) and Supplier Design Deviation Request (SDDR) from subcontractor •Prepare test platform special studies and evaluations •Prepare estimates for engineering, procurement, and construction of conceptual test platform modifications URS and AECOM have joined together as one company.
