**Job Summary** Resources and Industry is the collective name for AECOM’s work focused primarily on the power, energy, oil & gas and industrial sector\. Staff numbers in R&I area are approximately 400 in the UK comprising Architects, civil, structural and MEP engineers and process and automation specialists\. We are now seeking to recruit an **Architectural Practice Lead** with expertise in the Industrial sector to be based in our Manchester office\.
The industrial sector, comprising some 200 staff in the UK, is focused on seven end markets:
• Heavy industry / advanced manufacturing
• Automotive
• Agriculture, food and beverage
• Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals
• Data centres / mission critical
• Retail logistics / distribution
• Consumer products

Architecture, along with process and automation, is considered a lead service in the industrial sector\. Our architectural team is challenged to focus on the efficient operation of the building and site in terms of people, traffic and equipment flow, energy and site master planning\. Many of our clients are major businesses with strong public profiles that should be enhanced by the quality, efficiency and sustainability of the built environment of their sites and facilities\.
AECOM continues to develop and grow its Architecture business in the UK and the wider EMEA region\. Key to our success is the development of high quality multidisciplinary practice hubs\. The Manchester hub, as part of the R&I team is primarily focused on the industrial sector across the UK and internationally\. Principal clients include Jaguar Land Rover, Syngenta, Siemens, GE, British Sugar and Horizon Nuclear Power\. The team also enjoys more regionally focussed work across all sectors including airports, hotels, commercial, education and retail\.
The role will be to lead, mentor and grow this highly talented and ambitious team such that Architecture in the industrial sector builds upon its lead role through strong client contact and quality delivery that speaks in terms of our clients’ goals and business drivers\. You will develop an established, talented and successful Architectural practice within the R&I team with an emphasis on understanding the drivers and challenges of our clients in the broad industrial sector\.
In particular, the role includes:
• Development of Industrial Sector Practice Plan
• As part of the wider Industrials team, lead the deployment of resource and the commercial performance of the practice to meet the financial plan
• With the support of the commercial team, manage the professional and business risk of the Practice
• Support project bidding and the work winning team
• Host and facilitate the Project Review process including both design and technical aspects focussing on technical excellence
• With the support of the relevant central AECOM teams, manage compliance with ISO 9001 and 14001 requirements through established AECOM systems, developing these for architectural practice where necessary\.
• Graduate intake and development, including liaison with university departments on curriculum etc
• Development and accreditation of staff to fulfil AECOM project management requirements
• Development of architectural practice processes to take cognisance of changes in digital technologies including Project Delivery System / QA procedures / BIM
• Identify new ways of working / business improvement initiatives to enhance delivery efficiency, quality and breadth of service offering
• Establish research and development programmes as appropriate \(where dedicated investment identified\)
• EMEA Architectural discipline / practice leadership and team
• Operational leads for Power sector within R&I
• Operational leads from other end markets \(Buildings and Places, Civil and Infrastructure, Environment and Construction Services\)
• Technical Excellence team
Team structure to be developed in detail by role holder but will include:
• Delivery leads
• Work winning / BD team \(roles alongside delivery\)
• Business improvement team \(roles alongside delivery\)
Key Role Requirements
Architecture, perhaps more than any other profession in the construction industry, is collaborative in nature\. Development of the team requires an inclusive style where all staff are engaged and thus the whole is greater than the sum of its parts\. **Minimum Requirements** • Degree qualified in Architecture\. Appropriate chartered status is essential\.
• Will have proven experience of practice management and leadership
• Will have successfully led multidisciplinary teams people from Stage 0 to completion in a range of sectors \(industrial / power sector experience preferred but not essential\)
• Will have significant client facing capabilities
• Will be familiar with the practice culture which is required to achieve a ‘high design’ architectural product
• Able to lead the process for mentoring of graduate and development of professional training programme
**Preferred Qualifications** Industrial / Power project experience preferred
