The Olmsted Dam Project is currently seeking a field construction engineer to work in the casting yard constructing complex elevated structural concrete dam elements, on piers in river or productivity management. The Olmsted Dam will replace two deteriorating locks on the nation’s busiest stretch of commercial; navigation in the inland waterways. The dam will comprise five, 110 tainter gates and a navigable pass sections with boat-operated wicket gates. Affixed weir will tie the dam into the Kentucky bank. The dam is constructed by an “in-the-wet” method. Cast shells are built on land adjacent to the dam location and weigh on the order of 5,000 tons. They are lifted with a gantry crane and a continuity rebar grids are attached on the launch way. They are launched, lifted with a catamaran heavy lift barge, floated into position and set underwater on a prepared bed of select fill ad 24” diameter pipe pile foundation. Once the shells are in place, concrete is tremied into the cast shell to form a continuous bond between the foundation piles, rebar, and adjacent shell. The project uses state of the art engineering, construction and productivity methods. Position Description or Typical Responsibilities: This is a full time position (Construction Engineer). This individual will work in an active field environment and be tasked with various field engineering functions relating to construction of large reinforced concrete dam segments. Tasks may include quantity tracking and verification; inventory control, survey support, estimating, quality and field inspection and procurement support. The position may require periodic deployment on floating plant equipment therefore the individual must be comfortable working on the water.
