Equivalent education/experience is applicable. Must possess a thorough knowledge of all principles governing the operation and flight of rotary wing aircraft. Must have at least 3 years experience as Pilot-In-Charge (PIC) of an aircraft similar in category and class to at least one of the aircrafts used in the types of operations (UH-2) being conducted at KSC. Must possess working knowledge of current FAA and NASA rules and regulations governing the operation and maintenance of assigned aircraft. Must possess and maintain a current Commercial Helicopter License. A minimum of 2500 hours total flight time with 200 hours of instrument flight time desired. Must possess and maintain a FAA Class I Medical Certificate. Must possess and maintain qualification as a NASA PIC and successfully complete check rides conducted by the NASA Chief Pilot. Must maintain area permit(s), licenses, certifications, etc. required for performance of assigned tasks. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check w/inquiries. NO RELOCATION AVAILABLE. Job Description: PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Responsible to plan/prepare for missions. Develop plans and policies and monitor operations. Advise and assist commanders. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignment. Perform duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force laws and regulations and requirements and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Plan/prepare for mission. * Review mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information. * Supervise mission planning, preparation, and filing of flight plan, and crew briefing. * Ensure aircraft is preflighted, inspected, loaded, equipped, and staffed for mission. * Pilot aircraft and command crew. * Operate aircraft controls/equipment. * Perform, supervise, or direct navigation, in-flight refueling, rescue operations, and cargo/passenger delivery * Conduct/supervise training of crew members. * Ensure operational readiness of crew by conducting or supervising mission-specific training. * Develop plans and policies and monitor operations. * Advise and assist commanders. * Perform staff functions related to this specialty. WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND MENTAL DEMANDS: Most positions involve work typical of office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must posses planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., shipboard, labs, outside locations, etc.) where mechanical equipment, etc. is installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
