Selection Requirements
• All candidates must satisfactorily complete the RPI Entrance Exam. Failure of the entrance Exam will result in a 6 month waiting period for a one-time re-examination.

• Must successfully complete on-going training and qualification program in accordance with the established training schedule. Must receive a passing test score.

Job Description: Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking a Radiological Control Inspector to be based in our Aiken, SC location.
Summary
• Independently performs workplace monitoring and job coverage in radiological areas with stable and well-defined conditions. Assists higher level Radiological Protection Inspectors (RPIs) with workplace monitoring and job coverage as defined in this job description. This job serves as the training position for the SGL 20 Senior RPI position.
Responsibilities
• Works from site policies, procedures, training, and under guidance from Sr RPIs, supervisor and/or technical leads.
• Exercises Time-Outs or radiological stop-work authority, as needed, when radiological conditions have changed or unforeseen hazards are encountered.
• Performs and monitors radiological protection functions using instrumentation, weighing up to 25 pounds, to detect and measure radiological conditions in a variety of field conditions, to include minimal lighting and ventilation and extreme temperatures. Work may involve climbing ladders, scaffolds, walking up/down several flights of stairs, coupled with prolonged standing and walking.
• Note: The ability to wear respiratory protection equipment is part of this job description and is considered essential for the position.
• Perform job coverage under the following conditions: No independent job coverage in a High Radiation Areas (HRA) in conditions expected to exceed >1000 mrem/hr or areas where individuals are projected to receive >50 mrem during the working day If qualified to wear respiratory protection: No independent job coverage in conditions expected to exceed 50 DAC airborne concentration or 200 DAC-hr If not qualified to wear respiratory protection: No job coverage in conditions expected to exceed 0.1 DAC airborne concentration or 8 DAC-hr
• Note: The detection and measurement instrumentation includes standard portable radiation and contamination survey instruments continuous air monitors, area radiation monitors, liquid and air effluent monitors, and counting room instruments.
• Conducts contamination and radiation surveys associated with radioactive material movements and transfers on-site, along with shipments off-site and receipts from off-site.
• Conducts conditional and unconditional material release surveys. Uses radioactivity media such as disc smears, filter papers, and planchets for the purpose of sampling. Performs routine observations and monitoring of radiologically controlled areas to verify there is no migration of contamination and that radiological controls, including postings, are adequate. Audits personnel access into radiologically controlled areas and follow-up on contamination incidents involving personnel and/or facilities. Monitors jobs in progress and facility conditions to confirm that protective clothing and equipment requirements are met. Determines and updates area radiation exposure rates, contamination levels, and airborne radioactivity levels and posts area with appropriate signs and barricades.
• Prepares air, water, soil, and surface smear samples and count activity in accordance with established procedures. Analyzes and logs sample results. Calculates airborne concentrations and environmental releases. Establishes appropriate control measures in routine, special and emergency situations. Documents all radiological survey and activity results.
• Participates in administrative functions including ALARA implementation. Performs source and integrity checks of monitoring equipment to verify proper operation. Performs integrity/leak checks of radioactive sources. Issues the appropriate monitoring dosimeters in accordance with established procedures.
• Wears personal protective equipment/clothing, which may include lab coats, coveralls, cloth hoods, shoe covers, gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, harnesses, snake boots, and respiratory protection equipment (e.g., full-face respirators, SCBAs, fresh air hoods, and plastic suits).
• Provides technical guidance and assists in training of less experienced personnel.
• May be required to work 24/7 rotating shift assignment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
