Relocation: Relocation benefits are available. Job Description: AECOM is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist 3 to be based in our Carlsbad, NM location. AECOM-Global Management & Operations Services—Managing high-risk, technically complex programs and facilities for government clients is an area of expertise. We are the market leader in nuclear and high-hazard environmental management for the U.S. Department of Energy and are expanding that expertise to similar markets in Europe. We are also the only company in the United States to stabilize high-level radioactive waste. Typical Responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following: • This position will involve daily oversight, tracking, labeling, monitoring, off-site disposal and overall accountability of site generated hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams managed at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) . • Position involves writing waste reports and support to various functions of Environmental Staff. • An Environmental Compliance background with preferable experience in the compliance field adhering to the scope noted in the specific posting information section of vacancy request with emphasis given to RCRA knowledge and experience). • Meetings with state and federal regulators to present various waste management documentation will occur. Keep Safety as the number one priority for all work scope. Details of position: responsible for all aspects of managing Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) site-generated hazardous, universal, non-hazardous, and state-regulated wastes. This involves verifying that waste is properly characterized, labeled, stored, and transported to a qualified off-site disposal facility within the regulated time frames. Responsible for tracking waste accumulation dates, processing requests for disposal, updating the waste tracking database, and scheduling and coordinating all disposal shipments for site-generated waste. In addition, escorting personnel from regulatory agencies during compliance inspections and other site visits. In order to assure that site-generated waste is properly managed, ensure that weekly inspections of the waste storage areas and satellite accumulation areas are conducted. Inspections verify compliance with federal and state regulations by checking waste container integrity, labels, accumulation dates, and site-determined “Best Management Practices.” Participate in audits of disposal facilities to assure that Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) waste is dispositioned in a manner that is protective of human health and the environment, Participate in waste characterization sampling to determine proper disposal for various waste streams determined by analytical results. Individual will be required to follow strict compliance with established procedures for sample collection and management. Maintaining field sampling team procedures and receive routine training. Be part of the team to receive unannouced inspections by federal and state compliance regulators, Address their questions and provide supporting documentation on waste management activities (analytical data, manifests, hold times, shipping documentation etc.) On a rotational basis, be On-Call ensuring 24-hour support is provided to the WIPP Emergency Operations Center, serving as the environmental representative.
