**Job Summary** We are currently seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to join our team for several transit/rail systems engineering projects in Baltimore, MD\. The position will report directly to the client’s facilities engineering department\.
The mechanical engineer in this role:
+ Reviews, provides input to and final acceptance of, all Mechanical Engineering designs, calculations, analyses, and reports produced by consultants and Agency staff
+ Provides support to assigned project manager by identifying issues, evaluating alternative solutions, and providing recommendations
+ Provides engineering economic analysis in determining cost such as total cost of ownership, maintenance and operations costs, and payback periods
+ Provides design support during construction
+ Reviews and provides acceptance of construction contractor detailed installation information and any changes to the accepted design\. In this context works closely with Construction Management and the Contractors to determine the most reliable cost effective means of meeting Agency Goals
+ Coordinates designs with Agency Operations, Facilities, Quality Assurance and Systems Safety staff members to ensure all opportunities for continuous improvement are taken advantage of
+ Ensures Agency Sustainability efforts to develop efficient designs and evaluate new technologies intended to improve efficiencies and reduce impact
+ Work within a project team environment
+ Maintain and organize all project related documentation
+ Coordinate work with other project disciplines
+ Plan and organize work that follows a defined process
+ Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company, client and industry standard practices
**Minimum Requirements**
+ 5\+ years of experience with an engineering firm designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, industrial or institutional facilities
+ Experience using AutoCAD and Revit
+ The ability to work with, interpret, and apply national and local building codes
+ Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
+ Strong written communication, presentation, and client interface skills
+ Ability to take responsibility for given tasks with limited supervision while proactively developing standard practices and new techniques
+ Physically able to climb ladders and enter utility manholes, tunnels, and other mechanical equipment spaces
+ Knowledge of sound engineering principles
+ Knowledge of pertinent laws, codes and regulations
+ Demonstrated analytical capabilities
+ Demonstrated ability to be innovative, creative and make independent decisions
+ Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with others, work well in a team and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Management of mechanical engineering projects, either as independent stand\-alone projects or as a component of a larger engineering project
+ Condition assessments of existing equipment
+ Registered professional Engineer desired
