Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources\.
**Job Summary** AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Junior Fire Protection Engineer for immediate employment in the Newport News, VA office\. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Fire Protection Engineering\. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects\.
Incumbent responsibilities:
• This position supports DoD, particularly Air Force, in all areas of Fire Protection including design, operations and training areas
• Assist Senior Fire Protection Engineer
• Providing full fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety design services \(including project specifications\)
• Provide life safety code reviews and assist in the preparation of design analyses meeting the requirements of the USAF, NAVFAC, USACE, and local municipalities as applicable
• Provide design review services consisting of project design document reviews, shop drawings, code analyses, and survey reports
• Provide fire protection and life safety field support, project inspections, RFI support, scoping services of potential projects, attend design meetings, and support design Charrettes and other planning functions
• Design and review services are to be provided for projects nationally as well as internationally
• Support other clients \(VA and US Coast Guard\) performing life safety reviews
• Report directly to the Senior Fire Protection Engineer
• Provide assistance as needed to other URS Fire Protection Engineers as well as any office requiring fire protection services
• Travel to project sites locally, nationally, and internationally
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above\.
**Minimum Requirements** • Bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering or other appropriate discipline
• Fundamental in Engineering \(FE\) registration required
• Minimum two years of relevant fire protection engineering experience
• Sound technical knowledge of DoD and UFC code requirements, as well as the applicable NFPA and ICC codes and standards for fire protection and life safety criteria
• Effective communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
• Articulate with professional presence, solid decision\-making, planning, and organizational skills
• Must be able to work independently, without supervision
• Motivated, hard\-working, team player with attention to detail
• Good computer skills in Word, Excel, AutoCAD, and other software needed to produce reports and designs
• Good typing skills
• Must have valid driver’s license
