Requisition Number: IE103597 Interest Category: Engineering Interest Sub Category: Engineering - General Job Title : Traction Power Engineer Employment Category/Status: full-time Type of Position: Regular Hire Country: U.S. State: New York City: New York Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field • Minimum 4 years of experience • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the United States or ability to obtain registration within 6 months of hire • Ability to achieve Project Manager Certification within 1 year of hire • Strong interest in electrified rail transportation • Working knowledge of rail systems electrical power distribution • Experience in the design of large transit and railroad projects • Experience with electrified rail transit systems (AC and DC systems) • Knowledge of traction power AC and DC High and Low Voltage systems including relaying, rectifier, distribution and SCADA equipment • Knowledge of AREMA and IEEE standards for Traction Power design • Experience working on large transit/railroad projects with Substations, 3rd rail and/or Overhead Contact distribution systems • Strong drafting skills in AutoCAD and/or Microstation • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills • Valid US Driver's License • Qualified applicants who are offered a position may have to pass a pre-employment substance abuse test Job Description: The Rail Systems Group is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Traction Power Engineer for immediate employment in the New York City office. The appropriately qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to perform design calculations, learn and apply new material efficiently, and support the Rail Systems Group during design and construction projects. We are proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects, including design and construction of new light rail and streetcar systems across the US and Canada (Detroit, Charlotte, Oklahoma City, and Seattle currently). Typical projects also include design for local commuter rail systems such as Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. • Meet schedule and budget constraints per project demands • Provide schedule input for design tasks and preparation of task budgets • Develop and review designs and construction drawings • Perform design calculations • Check plans and calculations • Research alternative design options as needed • Assist in obtaining field data when necessary • Identify construction costs trending out of budget • Manage the preparation of milestone submittals • Review contractor submittals and support the installation of traction power systems components and software • Work with Traction Power engineers and OCS engineers to coordinate work on all projects • Participate in project working meetings • Produce construction specifications • Cost estimate review for design and construction • Assist in preparation of proposals for new work • Assist in preparation of presentations to clients and regulatory authorities • Advanced project management and client management skills. • Ability to review other professional’s designs, understand their objectives, and evaluate the impact on the electrical design • Capable of using design software, models, etc. to solve complex issues with direction from senior staff AECOM is a premier, fully integrated professional and technical services firm positioned to design, build, finance and operate infrastructure assets around the world for public- and private-sector clients.
