**Job Summary** We are seeking a candidate to fill a position as a project engineer to work in the AECOM Freight Rail Group located in Chicago, IL\. The position will involve a combination of both office engineering and field assignment\(s\)\. Work tasks will range from planning, studies, design, and construction engineering with a focus on transportation\-related projects in support of the freight rail engineering staff\.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
+ Assist the Project Manager in all aspects of project production functions for a variety of submittals
+ Act as Deputy Project Manager until qualified as Certified Project Manager with AECOM
+ Duties include design, coordination with sub\-consultants, work planning & scheduling, technical writing
+ Design includes development of Phase I, II, III work \(Conceptual, Technical, and Construction Modifications\)
+ Development of specific technical areas of plans and specifications
+ Perform occasional field reviews and site inspections
+ Mentor new graduate and intern staff
+ Ability to perform technical tasks without supervision
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
+ Masters degree with an emphasis in transportation design
+ 5\+ years of experience in freight rail related projects
+ Experience in Civil Engineering design
+ Experience w/ multiple elements of civil transportation design
+ Railroad and track design \(alignments/geometry, rail and/or roadside design, pavement and aggregates, traffic control, etc\.\)
+ Plan and contract document preparation
+ Drainage design, stormwater management and permitting
+ Utilities
+ Microstation, Bentley InRoads/Rail Track, Geopak Road/Site, Microsoft Office products
+ Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3d applications a bonus
+ The candidate will need to effectively communicate \(written & oral\) with peers and understand engineering requirements
+ Willingness to perform a variety of tasks and work both independently and as part of a team
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Professional Civil Engineering license
