**Job Summary** Our North West Development Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a **Transport Planning Consultant / Senior Transport Consultant** , with experience of ‘ **development** ’ transport planning\.
AECOM are currently expanding their successful team in the North West and have a need for either a Consultant / Senior Consultant to join the Manchester office\. The successful candidate will have experience in delivering innovative cost effective solutions to transport and highways issues relating to ‘development’ projects\. You will be proficient in using and analysing data from the various Transportation software packages and be able to produce high quality reports including transport strategies, transport assessments and travel plans\. You will have experience of managing projects and delivering to quality, time and budget demands\. You will be a good communicator and able to work closely with private and public sector clients as well as multi\-disciplinary teams\. The role would suit a self\-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team\. The Manchester office has an established track record of successfully delivering transport and highways schemes across the UK and Internationally\.
Our City Centre office has multi\-disciplinary capability offer enabling staff to get involved in a wide range of exciting projects\. The team provides transport planning and highway engineering support to private and public sector clients from concept through to implementation\. AECOM has been established in Manchester for a long time and has excellent connections to the City and surrounding areas, having been involved in many of the major development projects\. Our wide range of clients are from the private and public sector and include developers, retailers, land owners, house builders, blue chip companies, Universities and numerous Local Authorities across the North West region\. We also have a proven track record of successfully delivering projects for the Homes and Communities Agency, Transport for Greater Manchester, Highways England, and several international Clients\.
**Projects** : Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international ‘development’ transport and highways projects\. This provides our staff with a variety of exciting projects to deliver\. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
• Numerous appraisals, transport assessments and travel plans for mixed\-use, retail, commercial and residential development\.
• Highways infrastructure projects associated with Manchester Airport City\.
• Travel planning advice for universities, hospital trusts and developers\.
• Strategic land use appraisals and strategic master planning advice for developers, local authorities and government agencies on key strategic development schemes\.
**Job Responsibilities** :
The following bullet points provide an overview of the required accountabilities according to each of the grade levels:
**Consultant**
• Receive brief from Project Manager\.
• Contribute to technical work or reports\.
• Develop detailed reports or technical work for Project Manager approval, and act as deputy project manager when accredited\.
• Attend client / team meetings as appropriate\.
• Organise sub\-consultants as required\.
• Liaise with CAD Technician for production of drawings\.
• Prepare technical reports and ensure they are properly checked and verified\.
• Send reports or detailed design information to external parties\.
• Complete timesheets, allocating time correctly against job numbers\.
• Understand the basis of fees and costs\.
• Understand own contribution and impact on projects and develop an awareness of the implications for projects through the project management system\.
• Work within the financial and programme constraints and consider financial implications in producing technical work and reports\.
• Contribute and provide information for fee proposals\.
• Understand and implement the Company’s Health and Safety Policy as prescribed in IMS\. Be responsible for own health & safety and act responsibly in respect of others health & safety\.
**Senior Consultant**
• Work from a detailed project brief and deliver high quality work whilst monitoring progress\.
• Prepare fee proposals and agree with Director for submission to client, including resources and programme\.
• Act as Project Manager, \(once accredited\), as necessary\.
• Identify data and information required for projects and select sub\-consultants appropriately\.
• Assess staff requirements and competency at each stage of the project\.
• Identify data and information required for project and appoint appropriate sub\-consultants\.
• Develop detailed methodologies, delegating preparation of tasks as appropriate\.
• Manage the preparation of client reports, bringing together the contributions from other specialist areas of the business\.
• Determine the need for and attend project progress meetings\.
• Deliver projects within timescale, budget constraints and quality expectations\.
• Monitoring financial status, and progress of projects, to ensure delivery on time, to budget and to Client’s satisfaction\.
• Assist the Project Manager in keeping the financial system up\-to\-date and advise on the monthly progress of the project\.
• Manage work within financial and programme constraints\.
• Communicate project’s critical issues in a timely manner to Directors and clients\.
• Determine computer modelling requirements and ensure effective output from junior staff\.
• Establish strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM’s transportation division\.
• Take an active role in work winning, supporting business development activities including the development of Client relationships\.
**Minimum Requirements**
• A graduate in Transportation Planning, related subject or equivalent with experience of transport planning in directly related fields\.
• Ability to deliver transport planning solutions, manage junior staff and successfully manage projects\.
• A good all round knowledge of all aspects of transport planning for developments from strategic appraisal through to transport assessments and traffic engineering\.
• Sound technical experience, including familiarity with relevant software e\.g\. TRANSYT, LINSIG, ARCADY, PICADY;
• Understanding of and experience of working in the Planning Regulatory framework, and knowledge of planning and transport policy as applied to development\.
• A track record of having worked on a variety of transportation planning projects, possibly as a project leader on some, with experience of dealing directly with clients\. Strong communication skills able to liaise with local authority and government officers\.
• A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and ideally a member of a relevant professional body\.
**Preferred Qualifications** Advanced degree a plus, but not essential\.
