Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, soil science, agriculture, wetlands management, geology or any earth science related field)
• Minimum two years of data collection, data review and preparation of scientific documents with a focus in environmental, health & safety compliance
• Experience working in an industrial environment including direct experience in environmental compliance media (air emissions, water and/or hazardous materials-related) and health & safety compliance responsibilities
• Familiarity or experience with IL or other state, and federal environmental regulatory programs required (such as: air, water, waste, and hazardous materials) in addition to OSHA health & safety compliance requirements
• Specific software experience required: MS Word, Excel, and Access
• Must be a motivated self-starter with initiative, strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as time management and organizational skills
• Must exhibit strong writing/report generation skills and computer-related skills with an attention to detail
• Experience with ISO 14001 EMS and/or OHSAS 18001 systems, in addition to typical Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS) software and requirements
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and car for local Chicago travel to client sites on a regular basis
• Must be willing to engage in intermittent overnight travel within the US to respond to project needs
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position may be required to pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
Job Description: The Design and Consulting Services Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in the Chicago Office. The appropriately qualified applicant will demonstrate health and safety compliance experience in addition to environmental experience. The incumbent can look forward to projects relating to environmental, health and safety compliance, and management systems from a broad range of different types of industrial/commercial facility locations.
Incumbent Responsibilities:
• Plan, develop procedures, and document the organization of programs and training presentations relating to environmental, health and safety compliance
• Environmental media (air, water, waste, hazardous materials) ongoing and yearly reporting, recordkeeping and inspection/monitoring programs both to regulatory authorities and internally to client personnel
• Provide compliance assistance for environmental permit requirements and development of environmental permits and permit modifications
• Review and gather information relating to environmental, health and safety regulations including limited compliance assessments utilizing auditing protocol
• Regulatory application/interpretation for a range of environmental, health and safety areas
• Air emissions monitoring or testing data collection/evaluation of collected data; and assistance with the oversight/performance of emissions tests
• Assist with the development, update and population of information in an Environmental Management Information System (EMIS)
• Assist with EHS-related sustainability projects and initiatives
• Provide communications and assistance with invoicing and other project management assistance responsibilities
