Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources\.
**Job Summary** The Design and Consulting Services Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Geologist for immediate employment in the Oakland,CA office\. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Environmental Remediation, specific to subsurface investigations and remediation\. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
+ Supervises and directs surface and subsurface investigations that employ soil and rock borings, test pits, well installations, soil and groundwater sampling, aquifer testing, bore hole and surface geophysical surveys
+ Examines and describes soil samples and interpreting geologic and hydrogeologic conditions
+ Interprets data and prepares work plans, and technical reports
+ Ensures the safety of AECOM field personnel and contractors under their supervision
+ Performs subsurface drilling investigations to determine the presence and extent of contamination in rock, soil and groundwater, as vapor in soil pore\-space matrices
+ Typically collects these multimedia samples for field and laboratory testing
+ Performs field investigations that include surface reconnaissance, surface mapping, surface water measurements and sampling, drilling, trenching, and excavation work
+ Assists in performance of hydraulic tests to support hydrogeologic analysis in support of water resource projects and environmental remediation system design \(including groundwater recovery and treatment, de\-watering, and hydraulic containment\)
+ Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures
+ Works on complex and challenging projects with little senior assistance
+ Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed scientific evaluations, tests, products or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable
+ Conducts peer reviews; makes technical presentations
+ Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the scientific work in a part of a major project or small\-moderate scope project
+ Reviews plans and prepares or reviews technical specifications according to the contract documents
+ Interacts regularly with clients to expand work assignments or market new work
+ May be preparing marketing materials and making calls to potential new clients
+ Nurtures and develops existing clients more broadly
+ Prepares proposals independently for small and moderate scope projects and assists with proposals to provide services or obtain funding for mid\-level and above projects or programs
+ May have sales targets
+ Makes decisions independently on scientific problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work
+ Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objective, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters
+ Mentors junior\-level staff
+ May manage employees and supervise staff to complete assignments
+ Proactive in recognizing and appropriately addressing health and safety issues for entire team
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Geology or other related discipline \(e\.g\., Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology\)
+ 6\+ years of relevant experience
+ Or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
+ California Professional Geologist Certification
+ Requires working physically outdoors
+ Valid driver's license required
+ This position requires successful completion of the AECOM Project Management Certification program within 6 months of date of hire\. This certification program is a series of learning modules and is available on\-line through the AECOM Learning Management System at no financial cost to the employee
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Previous experience managing staff preferred
+ Experience building relationships with clients a plus
