Our global network of top\-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries\. **Job Summary** The Design and Consulting Services Group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented and experienced Transportation Planning Section Manager for immediate employment in the Transportation Planning section\. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established education in Surface Transportation, specific to transportation, transit, or freight planning and design\. The incumbent can look forward to managing or supporting a wide range of planning and preliminary engineering projects for roadway, transit systems, freight, toll roads, bicycle and pedestrian facilities\. The successful candidate will supervise a diverse planning team and manage various projects involving environmental impacts studies, feasibility studies, alternatives development, preliminary design, comprehensive transportation plans, public involvement, and the overall preparation of NEPA compliance documents\. This position is for a transportation engineer who will be part of a department that includes planners, traffic engineers, environmental scientists, landscape architects, and other support staff\. Incumbent responsibilities: • Manage a team of approximately 8\-10 planners/engineers • Serve as the Senior Transportation Engineer for small to large\-scale transportation and transit related projects • Prepare and oversee the development of alignment studies, impact studies, feasibility studies, preliminary roadway design, traffic analysis, and comprehensive plans • Prepare and oversee the development of preliminary construction plans, cost estimates, and specifications • Coordinate with coworkers and other engineering disciplines\. • Train and mentor less experienced staff • Assign tasks to and direct engineers, technicians and administrative staff • Monitor and ensure sufficient workload • Produce high quality deliverables and adherence to AECOM policies • Demonstrate technical experience • Conduct peer reviews and make technical presentations • Work directly with client • Participate in public meetings and client interaction • Manage tasks on budget and schedule • Prepare task proposals to provide services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs • Execute marketing and business development efforts in partnership with the Department Manager and Business Unit Leader, including financial reporting, meeting with potential clients, preparing high quality proposals, preparing scopes of services, identifying sub consultant needs, estimating budgets and schedules, and making presentations to clients **Minimum Requirements** • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or appropriate discipline • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in transportation planning and engineering for multimodal transportation projects Minimum 5 years supervising planning/engineering staff • Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland or AICP license • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs and other relevant software programs • Experience with FHWA, FTA, State, and local transportation planning and environmental processes • Strong project management and supervisory skills • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to discuss projects with co\-workers, clients, regulatory agency staff, AECOM staff, and the public in meetings and at public events • Strong written communication skills and the ability to write concise and readable technical reports and documents • Must be highly self\-motivated with the ability to successfully multi\-task, perform detail oriented work, work independently, and demonstrate effective time management skills • Must have a valid driver's license **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience managing planning and/or engineering projects from SHA, MTA, MDTA, VDOT, DDOT, and/or local Maryland/Virginia/DC agencies + Proficiency with MicroStation + Proficiency with Geopak, Inroads, or AutoCAD Civil 3D **What We Offer** AECOM is a place where you can put your innovative thinking and business skills into high gear and work alongside other highly intelligent and motivated people\.
