**Job Summary** The Business Unit Leader is responsible for the overall performance for a business unit within an Area/Metro\. He/she plans for and directs a business unit, providing operational, project delivery, and technical leadership\. Key responsibilities include: business unit sales/bookings and top\-line growth; profitability of the business unit and delivery of the financial plan including bookings, revenue generation, EBITA, and DSO; project delivery and client service; ensuring a safe and healthy work environment; and the recruitment, management, leadership and development of a team of project management/delivery and technical professionals specific to a business unit\.
Financial Results
Primary Responsibilities: P/L – Delivery of Plan/NSR, EBITA; Billings & Collections; Bookings\.
Secondary Responsibilities: Business Development Return on Investment \(BDROI\)\.
Responsible for profitability of the business unit within the area/metro and delivery of financial plan including bookings, revenue generation, EBITA, and DSO\. Provides the Area/Metro Manager support in developing the annual budget and preparing the financial outlook and other financial performance forecasts\. Provides the Area/Metro Manager, Business Line Executive, Region Business Line Leader, and Market Sector Leaders support in developing sales, preparing business development forecasts and opportunity tracking, and effectively assigning business development resources to achieve wins and bookings with appropriate returns on investment\.
Operations
Primary Responsibilities: Day\-to\-day operational management; ensures a safe and healthy work environment\.
Plans for and directs a business unit within an area/metro, providing operational, project delivery, and technical leadership which includes: project management and delivery, technical excellence, client satisfaction, quality, safety, resource allocation, and employee development and training\. Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with senior level region, business line and technical experts within the company and with other organizations and companies\. Responsible for the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees and the projects and programs managed\. Champions the AECOM Safety For Life Program and ensures zero incident techniques are utilized and measured\. A member of the Area/Metro Management Team, focused on optimizing the overall performance of the area/metro\.
Business Strategy and Development \(Win Work\)
Primary Responsibilities: Business unit sales and top\-line growth through opportunity development and capture \(execution of strategy\), tracking; Technical competence/leadership/innovation/industry prominence\.
Secondary Responsibilities: Key Account Management \(KAM\) client development/ management; Business development priorities and resources; Market research/intelligence, competitive assessment and investment strategy; geopolitical/civic leadership/presence\.
Responsible for business unit sales/bookings and top\-line growth within an area/metro\. Is active in the market and closely engaged with key clients, understanding client needs and expectations that will result in repeat business opportunities\. Supports the Area/Metro Manager, Business Line Executive, Region Business Line Leader, Market Sector Managers and Account Managers in the pursuit of new business, specifically providing marketing and business development support and intelligence, developing effective capture plans, proposals and bids to procure work\. Actively participates in professional associations related to the business unit and practice areas of specialization, staying at the forefront of the professional and technical standards, serving as a champion of advancing the profession and developing and recruiting employees in the business unit\. As a secondary responsibility supports and collaborates with counterparts in similar business units across the operating group and across business units within the area/metro to grow the top line and gain market share\.
Project Delivery \(Do Work\)
Primary Responsibilities: Project management \- including project reviews, quality assurance/control; Margin achievement and preservation; Technical expertise and best practices; Client satisfaction\.
Responsible for project delivery and client service: Project staffing, workload balancing, and technical work in accordance with client expectations, contract scope of work and budget, and to company, professional, quality, safety and legislative standards\. Responsible for effective project reviews and ensures quality assurance/control and compliance\. Develops technical standards and implements best practices\. Acts as an advisor to clients and acts as an advisor to others on client expectations, project delivery, technical practice and business units\. Serves as top advisor on projects of large scope and complexity\.
People
Primary Responsibilities: Hiring, development, management, deployment, retention and engagement of employees\.
Responsible for the recruitment, management, leadership and development of a team of project management/delivery and technical professionals specific to a business unit\. Builds high performance, collaborative teams who demonstrate a strong focus on clients, a commitment to excellence and innovation, and strong employee engagement\. Champions the Performance \+ Rewards program and succession planning processes\. Ensures that AECOM programs such as Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, Diversity and Inclusion, and Ethics & Compliance are a significant part of the organizational culture\.
Direct Reports: Department Managers and Senior Department Managers, Market Sector Managers, and may include technical, professional, project delivery and/or project/program managers\.
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Bachelor's Degree in related field
+ Minimum 10 years experience with five years in a managerial role
+ Proven record of developing new clients
+ Ability to discern new markets and develop business in those areas
+ Expertise in the practical application of engineering principles and technology
+ Ability to perform individually in a competitive environment
+ Superior ability to satisfy customers and manage company’s association with them
