Must have at least five (5) years of Class A CDL level truck driving experience. Must have a current valid Class A CDL driver's license. Must be able to drive straight truck, under 1-1/2 tons; usually 4 wheels. Straight truck, 1-1/2 to 4 tons inclusive; usually 6 wheels. Straight truck over 4 tons; usually 10 wheels. Must have ability to meet physical demands and pass any related medical examination requirements required to perform daily assigned tasks. Must be able to obtain a government driving permit. This position requires a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Must be available for any shift. Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed. “Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.” Please note: Work on this contract is performed at the Red River Army Depot. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feet; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel. Procedure Compliance - Each employee must read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job. Job Description: The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scrapper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment. Essential Responsibilities: 1. Operates heavy material handling equipment while engaged in moving, loading and unloading extremely heavy or bulky material and equipment such as engines and other components and support equipment. 2. Hoists extremely heavy equipment, machinery and equipment where mobility is limited or unlimited. 3. Responsible for determining the type of equipment to be used based on the item to be lifted, weather, movement area, and overhead clearances. 4. Performs operator maintenance on the equipment to be operated especially checking for oil, looseness of boom bolts, kinks or breaks in cables, slack or tautness in tractor tracks. Schedules equipment for periodic and special inspections. 5. May drive truck to destination for pickup and deliveries on depot. 6. Transport materials and materials between various locations on depot. 7. Secures all materials being transported to ensure it is secured to prevent loss and/or damage.
