**Job Summary** Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a **Structures Inspection Engineer** who wants to pursue a career in the inspection and maintenance of bridges and other transportation structures\. AECOM are currently expanding their structures inspection team in our Chelmsford office following several project wins and require a structures inspector to work in the Essex, London and East Anglia area\.
The successful inspector will be employed to support the Structures Team in carrying out structural inspections, principally of highways and railways bridges, culverts, subways etc\., preparing inspection reports including maintenance activity recommendations and other deliverables for Structures schemes\. It is essential that the candidate is highly competent in Structural inspections with a minimum of three years of structures inspection experience and a strong knowledge and understanding of bridges and other highways structures\. They will, preferably, be familiar with the Highways Agency’s Guidance \(Design Manual for Roads and Bridges\)\. Experience of inspecting rail structures would also be advantageous but is not essential as training would be given in this area if necessary\. The successful candidate will be familiar with inspection practices and Bridge Condition Indicator forms \(including the Inspection Manual for Highway Structures\) and be able to compile electronic inspection reports\. They will have a good understanding of the basic mechanisms of structural deterioration and structure components\.
Working as a Structures Inspector, the candidate will ensure quality systems and health and safety systems are followed in the execution and reporting of all inspections\. The candidate will have strong communication skills both written and verbal and be willing to work as part of a close team to deliver large packages of structural inspections\. The role would suit a self motivated individual looking to advance their career within a dynamic team\. Depending on our future workload and on the skills and ambition of the candidate, it is possible that the role could over time broaden into other aspects of structural engineering\. Working as a Structures Inspector, you must ensure quality systems and health and safety systems are followed in the execution and reporting of all inspections\.
The Chelmsford office has an established track record of successfully delivering structures and highways engineering schemes\. Our modern office has multi\-disciplinary transportation design capability and our core skills include highway, structures and geotechnical engineering\. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals experienced in structures inspection and maintenance with a sound technical background that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload\.
The team provides the full range of transportation structures services form planning, inspection, maintenance, assessment and design on a wide variety of highways, rail and water engineering projects\. They also support other AECOM business lines and our consortium alliance partners where their projects have a need for specialist structures inspection and maintenance support\. Our structures team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients\. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include the UK National Government, several Local and Rail Authorities, Utility Companies and private developers located across the South East region\. We also have a proven track record of successfully delivering projects for Transport for London, Suffolk County Council and several national and international Clients\.

Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of structures infrastructure improvements\. A selection of our current projects include:
• London Highways Alliance Contract \- North West \(8 year framework – won in 2013\) including General and Principal inspections of 270 \(approx\) structures/year
• Northern Outfall Sewer Bridges Structural Refurbishment \(won in October 2013\) includes inspection and maintenance works for 9 major structures
• A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Upgrade \(won in October 2013\) includes inspection, maintenance and upgrade works to A14 structures
• Lowestoft Swing Cycle and Foot Bridge
• Bridge engineering projects for Local Authority Clients
• HS2
**Job Responsibilities:**
• Inspecting bridges, underground structures and retaining walls to national and international standards
• Contribute and provide guidance on structures maintenance proposals
• Contribute and provide information for estimates for bridge repairs
• Carry out risk assessments for inspections and produce method statements
• Producing technical reports
**Minimum Requirements** • You will have a minimum of three years structures inspection experience, with proven bridge inspection experience and identification of safety related defects
• You should have a genuine interest in transportation structures and have good communication skills
• Your technical background will allow you to contribute towards the maintenance of steel, reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete transportation structures
• You will have a commitment to comply with Health and Safety at Work and meeting the needs of our Clients
• You will show a willingness and enthusiasm to be part of a team and have a desire to learn, whilst at the same time sharing your experience and expertise with others
