Job Description: AECOM has an immediate opportunity for a Senior VDI Systems Engineer to support a Federal Agency with the deployment of a new VDI environment to provide both local and remote access to a number of published enterprise applications.
The Engineer will be responsible for the deployment of an entirely new system based on VMware Horizon 6 running on a Nutanix platform. The agency currently has an aging platform that is nearing end of life. As part of a coordinated effort, an entirely new system for the environment will be designed and built in parallel with the existing production system. Once testing and user acceptance is complete, users will be migrated to the new system, and the DEV one will be decommissioned.
You will be responsible to perform a comprehensive analysis of the VDI environment. The design must be capable of supporting 500 simultaneous users across all SEC locations.
Other core requirements for this design are:
• The new environment must, at the very least, provide the same functionality as the current DEV environment for both local and remote users
• At launch, the new environment must initially be capable of supporting 500 simultaneous users
• Growth of the environment should be taken into account. The design shall detail a means for rapidly increasing the maximum number of simultaneous users to 3,000 and 5,000, assuming adequate virtual server resources exist (i.e. using Nutanix Provisioning Server or similar automated, rapid provisioning methods).
• At a minimum, the environment must support the following client types using Horizon software: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Apple iOS devices (iPad & iPhone)
• Ease-of-use and end-user acceptance are core goals of the project
• Implementation of desktop performance monitoring, reporting, and load-testing capabilities
• Following your acceptance of the design, you will Implement and test the systems, then migrate existing users to the new environment. Finally you will provide complete operational and procedural documentation for the system.
