**Job Summary** We are looking to recruit a **Principal Consultant** within our Transport Planning Business and in our Urban Space team in London office\.

Our Transport Planning teams plan and evaluate future transport schemes, forecast demand and revenue, develop business cases, undertake economic appraisal and market analysis, as well as look at the relationships between spatial planning and transport\. We undertake transport modelling at a national and regional level right down to detailed micro\-simulation where individual roads, public transport systems and crowd movements are analysed\.
Our clients include national and local transport authorities such as the UK Department of Transport and Transport for London, major sporting organisations such as the London Olympic Delivery Authority, private developers of land and transport facilities as well as overseas institutions such as the European Commission\. We develop and use some of the most sophisticated transport modelling techniques, applying a range of specialist software\.
Job Responsibilities:
The Urban Space team is expanding to meet the demands of our wide portfolio of clients – from both within the UK and overseas\. This role has been created to meet existing demand and is intended to grow over time, offering unlimited career progression potential for the right person\.
•The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in transport planning across several areas, including strong micro\-simulation modelling experience\.
•The candidate is expected to have good knowledge on junction modelling, as well area wide micro\-simulation modelling and should have hands on experience on using the relevant software packages\.
•The successful applicant will also be familiar with TfL’s VMAP / TMAP processes, and will have in\-depth knowledge of traffic signals coding and the optimisation processes\.
•Knowledge and understanding of strategic modelling technique and use of relevant strategic modelling software is desirable\.
•We are seeking someone able to manage junior technical staff, undertake project management tasks and communicate clearly with other disciplines and clients on a regular basis\.
**Minimum Requirements** •Project management \(delivering major projects in micro\-simulation highway modelling to quality standards, on time, and within budget\)\.
•Provide specific technical leadership in micro\-simulation modelling\.
•Supervision of workload and support to junior project managers\.
•Contribute in preparation of Technical and Financial Proposals for new projects
•Undertaking relevant research to open up application of pedestrian flow modelling/analysis tools and techniques on wider aspects
**Preferred Qualifications** Preferred Qualifications
•Degree/Masters qualification in an analytical subject \(e\.g\. geography, mathematics, economics, engineering\)\.
•Membership of a relevant professional chartered institute or near to achieving accreditation
•Proven leadership experience in a number of areas within transport planning and depth of knowledge in specific areas such as transport modelling and signals optimisation\.
•Ability in line management and small team management\.
•Experience in transport modelling and forecasting of highway and/or public transport demand and supply\.
•Experience in appraisal and evaluation of transport proposals to current DfT standards, as well as TfL’s VMAP and TMAP processes\.
•Essential Experience in a number of relevant transport planning and software packages e\.g\. VISSIM, Paramics, Aimsun, Transyt, Linsig, etc\., Additional understanding and knowledge of strategic modelling and appraisal software such as SATURN, CUBE, EMME, TRIPS, TRICS, TUBA etc\. will be desirable\.
•Ability to manage medium sized projects\.
•Ability to produce medium sized competitive proposals\.
•Delivery of projects to budget and programme\.
•The ability to supervise and manage junior staff and their work\.
•Ability to communicate technical and management aspects of work to senior staff\.
•Experience of presenting to large audiences\.
•Leadership in producing quality client reports to a high technical standard\.
•Capability to manage client contact and liaison without supervision\.
•Involvement with broader business development activity and raising of the team’s and company’s profile\.
•Good risk identification and management skills\.
