The Equipment Manager is responsible for managing the department and for supervising and participating in primary equipment services functions, including equipment acquisition/disposition, rental, maintenance, repair, and utilization.
In addition, the Equipment Manager's responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Develop and implement formal equipment maintenance procedures and schedules and ensure conformance with established requirements.
• Observe the use, repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Provide instruction to management, mechanics, repair shops and others on the proper repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Recommend equipment improvements and follow-up through equipment audits.
• Diagnose wear and existing problems and forecast pending problems with equipment.
• Recommend movement or disposal of equipment to meet utilization requirements.
• Supervise and participate in the disposition of equipment, in line with established procedures for equipment replacement and disposition.
• Supervise and participate in the development/implementation of automated information systems for use in managing the equipment inventory and tracking equipment histories (i.e. purchase, usage, maintenance, etc.).
• Responsible for training programs to enhance equipment related objectives (e.g., operator training, equipment maintenance, etc.).
• Participate actively in the company’s continuous improvement process, serving as a technical resource in the identification and implementation of improved processes/procedures.
• Create an open, honest environment that provides information and elicits input, so that all can successfully perform their work.
• Develop, recommend and administer the operating budget for the department and for the company’s approved capital budget.
• Monitor actual expenditures in relation to budgets and prepare periodic reports and analysis for senior management.
• Develop equipment replacement plans/schedules and perform financial/economic analyses to assess purchase vs. lease alternatives in the selection of equipment.
• Monitor and provide support to district management to insure billing hours are greater than or equal to actual utilization.
• Demonstrated leadership ability: high values and integrity.
• Demonstrated knowledge of heavy equipment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of business management principles, including financial statement review & analysis, cost control, and continuous improvement techniques.
• Proven skill and effectiveness as a manager, with the ability to define and communicate objectives, delegate and prioritize assignments, and accomplish desired results through others.
• Proven business savvy and judgment, with demonstrated understanding of equipment management in a large, geographically- dispersed construction company.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise, understandable business reports.
• Familiarity with personal computers, including spreadsheet and word processing applications preferred.
