Minimum Requirements: Minimum Requirements:
1. High School graduate or demonstrated equivalent.
2. Five years of experience as a Central Utility Plant Operator or Stationary Engineer in an industrial or manufacturing environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of engineering fundamentals necessary for effective and safe operation of complex electrical and mechanical building equipment and systems.
2. Experience working with steam systems (e.g. high pressure steam boilers), 1000T centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, 200HP – 400HP air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, VAV pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
3. Training or experience with building automation control systems, I-Vue experience is a plus.
4. Training or experience with refrigeration systems.
5. Experience supervising vendors and on-site contractors.
6. Experience working in a Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) environment.
7. Experience with MS Office products. (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc).
8. Stationary Engineer Certification or equivalent
9. EPA approved Universal CFC certification.

Physical Requirements:

Job Description: URS, an AECOM company, is seeking a Central Utility Plant Operator in Columbus, GA!
• This position will initially work Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm during the first 30 – 60 days of systems training.
• Thereafter, the position will transition to its regular schedule of three 12-hour shifts on Friday – Sunday from 7:00pm – 7:00am;
each of these 3 days are paid at 8 hours of straight time plus 4 hours of overtime.
The facilities maintenance Central Utility Plant (CUP) Operator is responsible for the care and maintenance of the Central Utility Plant and associated utilities equipment. Equipment includes, but not limited to steam boilers, industrial grade chilled water systems, compressed air system, fire water systems, and various other HVAC and building management systems located throughout the property. Also, coordinates/oversees subcontracted activities and performs preventive maintenance activities, repairs and other services.
Essential Functions:
• Operates, troubleshoots and corrects problems with the CUP equipment such as steam boilers, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, and pumps responding to alarm conditions as applicable.
• Works with steam systems (e.g. 60 psi steam boilers), 1000T centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, 200HP – 450HP air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, VAV pneumatic controls, HVAC air handling units, and automated building management systems.
• Operates and maintains utilities systems ensure all are operating at peak efficiency
• Monitors Building Management System to insure proper operation of air handling equipment and maintain normal operating conditions and room temperatures, making adjustments as necessary.
• Repairs pumps, motors, and valves, coils and piping associated with steam, chilled water, compressed air, process cooling water, potable water systems throughout the plant.
• Has primary responsibility for water testing, treatment and associated chemical feed system for the boilers and chilled water systems.
• Participates in the facility peak shaving efforts in order to reduce electrical and/or fuel consumption
• Read dials, monitor equipment, enter recordings into computer equipment and log all data.
• Read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
• Analyze problems, recommend solutions, and initiate repairs.
• Takes daily readings of utilities equipment and makes corrections and notifications when out of operating parameters.
• Performs Preventative, Predictive, Corrective Maintenance work orders and building tours in conformance to established routines and schedules.
• Understands and complies with all Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures.
• Respond to equipment and systems failures to restore services and/or call in help as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
