Failure of the entrance Exam will result in a 6 month waiting period for a one-time re-examination. • Satisfactorily complete panel interview Qualification Requirements • Must successfully complete on-going training and qualification program in accordance with the established training schedule. Job Description: Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking an Entry Radiological Control Inspector to be based in our Aiken, SC location. Summary • Independently performs simple or routine radiological protection functions and/or provides assistance to higher level and more experienced Radiological Protection Inspectors (RPIs) in more complex tasks. This job serves as the training position for salary grade level 18 and 20 RPI positions. Responsibilities • Works from site policies, procedures, textbooks, and training curriculum. • Works under the direction of instructors while in the classroom (including mockup training) and from higher level RPIs, supervisors and technical leads while in the field. • Conducts contamination and radiation surveys in Controlled Areas, Radiological Buffer Areas, Radioactive Material Areas, Radiation Areas, Contamination Areas, High Contamination Areas, Airborne Radioactivity Areas, and non-controlled areas using standard survey techniques with portable contamination and radiation monitoring equipment. • Conducts independent job coverage in Radiological Buffer Areas and Radioactive Material Areas. • * *Note: Although Contamination Area, High Contamination Area, Airborne Radioactivity Area, and Radiation Area surveys are part of this job description, these are not considered essential functions and must be performed with defined oversight from more experienced RPIs, supervisors and/or technical leads. • Monitors Radiological Buffer Areas, Controlled Areas, Radioactive Material Areas, and non-controlled areas using appropriate portable contamination and radiation survey instruments weighing up to 25 pounds. Tasks may involve use of protective clothing and respiratory protection equipment and may involve work in poor field conditions with minimal lighting and ventilation and extreme temperatures. Work may involve climbing ladders, scaffolds and walking up/down several flights of stairs along with prolonged standing and walking. • Conducts contamination and radiation surveys associated with radioactive material movements and transfers on-site and receipts from off-site. Conducts conditional and unconditional material release surveys. Determines and updates area radiation exposure rates, contamination levels, and airborne radioactivity levels and post area with appropriate signs and barricades. • Operates counting room equipment utilizing approved procedures. • Performs assigned duties in dosimetry, calibration, and air sampling programs, which may involve lifting material weighing up to 25 pounds. • Performs routine observations and monitoring of radiological controlled areas to verify there is no migration of contamination that radiological controls, including postings are adequate. Audit personnel access into radiological controlled areas and follow-up on contamination incidents involving personnel and/or facilities. Source checks portable survey instruments upon receipt from Calibrations Facility and again after use, utilizing approved procedures. Documents all survey and activity results. Performs integrity/leak checks of radioactive sources. • Provides administrative support to include record keeping, filing, and updating procedure manuals. Examples include processing radiological work permit requests, issuing and controlling dosimetry inventory, radioactive source records, and completing forms and logs. • Wears industrial and/or radiological personal protective equipment/clothing to support personal safety which may include items such as lab coats, coveralls, harnesses, snake boots, and respiratory equipment (e.g., full-face respirators, fresh air hoods, and plastic suits). • If participating in the radiological control inspector training program, demonstrates proficiency in the following: Use of portable and fixed radiological monitoring equipment; calculating radiation exposure rates, dose, airborne contamination, and environmental releases; Establishing appropriate control measures for radiological conditions; determining appropriate monitoring dosimeters using Radiological Work Permits (RWPs); determining appropriate protective clothing and equipment using RWPs; donning, doffing, and function of various types of protective clothing and equipment; demonstrating job coverage under stable radiological conditions in areas with radiological conditions<5 mrem/hr,<5Q Table 2-2 levels, and<0.1 DAC or<8 DAC-hr. Note: There will be no independent job coverage in Contamination Areas, High Contamination Areas, Airborne Radioactivity Areas, Radiation Areas or High/Very High Radiation Areas. • May be required to work 24/7 rotating shift assignment. • Performs other duties as assigned.
