**About the Business Line** **Environment**
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources\.
**Job Summary** The AECOM Crystal City, VA office is looking for a Public Affairs Specialist servicing our Federal client with community/stakeholder relations, media affairs, communications, and event planning support\. This position is located at a client's site, also in Arlington, VA\.
Responsibilities include developing outreach strategies, creating communication materials, managing two environmental awards programs, writing articles and press releases, website development/maintenance, social media management, building strong relationships with local elected officials and stakeholders, and helping to develop and implement proactive media campaigns\. Candidate will also coordinate and facilitate stakeholder meetings and workshops, coordinating with client counterparts and AECOM technical staff\. Individual will serve as primary point of contract for awards programs, interfacing with DoD Commands worldwide, working with other regional commands to identify potential nominees and solicit applications, and coordinate an annual video teleconference with DoD leadership and award winner\. The Candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders on complex environmental and energy issues in areas that include public affairs, event coordination, meeting facilitation, and related communications needs\. Some travel may be required, up to 10% of time\. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above\.
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or English
+ 3\+ years of Public Affairs / Public Relations / Communications experience
+ Ability to coordinate an awards programs, including ordering plaques, writing presentation scripts, recruiting award presenters, and any other announcements or publications, as appropriate
+ Professional AP Style Guide writing experience \(press releases, in\-depth articles, etc\.,\) ideally on scientific/environmental/technical topics
+ Experience managing social networking tools \(e\.g\., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, and Instagram,\) interpreting analytics and responding to posts
+ Ability to manage concurrent multiple tasks at any given time
+ Experience in researching complex, scientific and controversial topics
+ Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential
+ Demonstrate ability to meet critical and urgent deadlines
+ Ability to work with media staff and transform complex issues and technical information into clear, comprehensible messages for public and media consumption
+ Must be outgoing and assertive, self\-directed and detail\-oriented, able to multi\-task and work in teams or independently, and possess strong time\-management skills
+ Individual must show demonstrated experience in managing multiple tasks and diverse groups in order to reach a consensus or conclusion
+ Must be motivated, hard\-working team player with attention to detail
+ Must be able to interface with senior DoD leadership and other AECOM staff
+ Must be able to work independently without direct supervision
+ Professional AP Style Guide writing experience \(press releases, in\-depth articles, etc\.,\) ideally on scientific/environmental/technical topics
+ Experience using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro for outreach brochures, posters, logos, exhibits, factsheets, etc\.
+ Proficient with MS Office \(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access\)
+ Knowledge of website development/maintenance using Word Press
+ Knowledge of video and image editing software a plus
+ Experience managing social networking tools \(e\.g\., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, and Instagram\)
+ Must be able to lift exhibit cases/containers and outreach supplies \(up to 30 lbs\.\) 5\-10 times per month, depending on outreach travel schedule, to/from storage unit to/from outreach events
+ Must have a valid driver's license
**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Knowledge of website development/maintenance using Word Press
