Our global network of top\-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries\. **Job Summary** Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a **Senior Engineer** with experience of bridge design, inspection and assessment schemes to join their busy Altrincham Structures team\. This is a new position and reflects expansion of the team\. The successful candidate will be either ICE or IStrE Chartered or be approaching Professional Review\. They will have design, inspection and assessment experience together with some project management involvement\. They will have experience of working as part of a project team involved in bridge and other associated structures schemes from commission through to completion\. This will be on road, rail and/or light rail schemes in the UK\. The role will suit a self motivated individual looking to assist in leading teams and advance their career both technically and in project management as part of a dynamic team currently of 20 engineers and technicians but increasing\. The Altrincham office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 25 years mainly in the north west but also throughout the UK and overseas\. Our modern office has multi\-disciplinary transportation design and capability in highway and rail schemes, and works closely with other disciplines from Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Building Divisions\. Due to recent major project wins we are expanding the team and require high level technical and leadership skills\. Recruitment of other support staff to meet ever increasing workload demands is also in hand\. The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects\. Recent major wins for the team include rail infrastructure design and a new dual 2 lane relief road both within Greater Manchester\. In addition the team is due to commence a 5 year commission for UK wide rail bridge inspection and assessment\. Other recently projects have included major overseas commissions in the Middle East where the team has undertaken work in the Altrincham office and also provided staff to work overseas\. These overseas opportunities may continue although this position is intended to recruit for a Senior Engineer working in the Altrincham office but with the possibility of short term overseas work should this be acceptable\. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include long term Framework Agreements with numerous North West Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors\. Projects: Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international highway and infrastructure improvements\. A selection of our current and recent projects includes: • Northern Hub\. Assessment and detailed design of structural works for a major rail improvement commission in central Manchester which will provide new lines from Piccadilly to Victoria stations\. Works include major new road and river crossings, replacement road crossings and widening numerous historic arches\. • A6MARR\. As part of a multidisciplinary team, design of new road and rail crossings as part of the 10km long new dual carriageway from Manchester Airport to A6 Hazel Grove • Manchester Metrolink Phase 3 Oldham to Rochdale and East Manchester Lines\. Bridge Inspection, assessment, refurbishment and new build detailed design for over 100 structures as part of a multidisciplinary team on the major D&B commission\. • Chester Zoo\. Design of bespoke access and footbridges plus numerous retaining walls as part of AECOM multidisciplinary commission for the new Chester Zoo Island Development\. The Bridges team has worked in close cooperation with the Architect on themed structures which have included timber, steel and concrete forms with bespoke bamboo and rock finishes\. • CAFA Rail Bridge inspection and assessment\. Long term commission following on from the previous similar CEFA and SAC commissions\. The sites are throughout the West Coast Main Region and Altrincham team is working in association with Birmingham team\. • Greater Manchester Councils Framework\. Bridge inspection and assessment for Manchester, Stockport and Trafford Councils under AECOM’s long term Framework Agreement\. This Framework Agreement has recently been renewed for a period of at least 3 years and now includes TfGM as one of the clients\. **Job Responsibilities:** The appropriate level of technical and project management experience in the majority of the tasks below is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities can be carried out to the necessary standard: • Assist with project manage road and/or rail bridge and associated structures engineering schemes from feasibility through to detailed design, taking responsibility for the contribution of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate\. • Preparation of Technical Approval documentation • Hands on technical design on road and/or rail structures • Hands on assessment of road and/or rail structures • Structural inspections and reporting • Client liaison • Production of tenders including quality documentation and costings • Being an active participant in achieving Professional Review\. **Minimum Requirements** • Experience in road and/or rail projects\. Experience in both is not essential but would be advantageous\. • Experience in working as part of a multi\-disciplinary team • You will have high level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design and be able to assist in leading teams of graduate engineers in such projects\. • You will have worked with a variant of clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors • You will be able to undertake project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation • You will have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites\. • You will have a good command of oral and written English **Preferred Qualifications** • You will have a relevant degree and be a Chartered Engineer or approaching Professional Review with strong post graduate experience on bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes\.
