Our global network of top\-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries\. **Job Summary** The Railway Consulting Team is a multi\-disciplinary unit delivering rail operations and planning, assurance, systems engineering, RAMS, Engineering Safety Management, Electromagnetic Compatibility, procurement and transaction advice, and development and feasibility studies\. This position reports to the Railway Consulting \(RailCon\) Manager and is part of a team of 10 permanent staff plus a number of independent experts\. It is functionally situated within the London Railway Unit and provides services to all Rail units, to other Aecom sectors and directly to clients\. The preferred location for this post is in the London \(Greencoat Place\) office but consideration will be given to location at other Railway offices currently being: Swindon, Birmingham, York and Glasgow The Senior Railway Systems Engineer should be able to work alone, as part of small speciailist teams or within a large project team to provide advice on a broad range of railway projects\. Depending on the project, this could include pre\-feasibility and feasibility studies, technical and procurement advice, design management, operations planning and modelling, risk management, assurance processes and safety\. Role should have a broad overview of all aspects of the railway industry, interested parties, operational aspects, and be flexible with working alongside other consultants\. The incumbent will have certain areas of expert capability and will deliver these as appropriate\. Examples incluce interface management, operations planning and modelling and assurance processes\. The railway consultant will coordinate with other consultants, engineers, transport planners, environmentalists, economists, financial and legal advisers both within and outside Aecom s Key Elements of the role will include; Railway engineering design, operational modelling and capacity planning, assurance, systems engineering, engineering management, RAMS, engineering safety management and electromagnetic compatibility as required on a project by project basis\. Prepare and submit reports, studies, models and similar documentation Participate and in some cases lead workshops, reviews and preparation of documents for activities such as: Assurance Gateways, Interdisciplinary Reviews, HAZID and HAZOP, Railway Safety Cases, Value Engineering and Risk Management\. Act as client facing Team Leader on selected projects Operate within quality standards and procedures Assist or lead the preparation of bids and tender submissions + **Minimum Requirements** Considerable experience in at least one of the following: + A railway specific discipline such as track, trackbed, civil and structures, power, signalling, telecommunications + Railway operational modelling and capacity planning + Systems engineering and technical assurance, including requirements and configuration management and systems integration, ideally gained within the rail industry + RAMS analysis + Risk identification analysis and mitigation – the ALARP Principle + Engineering Safety Management in the railway industry + Electro Magnetic Compatibility analysis Knowledge: + Railway operations and systems + Conversant with railway design safety principles HSE/HMRI, railway safety standards –eg ROGS and engineering safety management – Yellow Book\. + Project management techniques and processes + A working knowledge of the railway industry procedures and practices + Be conversant with the requirements of EN 50216 RAMS Railway Applications **Preferred Qualifications** + Technical University Degree preferably in Systems, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering + Associate Member of an Engineering or Railway Institution or working towards this + Master’s Degree in Railway Systems, Railway Operations or Safety would be an advantage **What We Offer** AECOM is a place where you can put your innovative thinking and business skills into high gear and work alongside other highly intelligent and motivated people\.
