**About the Business Line** **Environment**
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources\.
**Job Summary**
As a key member of our Environmental and Sciences team in Freeport Texas, you bring valuable knowledge and skills to every area of our business\. The Safe Work Permit Writer operates under the general direction of the Project Director, but works directly with Project Managers, Engineers or other Environmental Scientists to perform job site assessments of construction areas or other planned work activities\.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Performs jobsite assessment of construction areas and planned work activities
+ Identifies safe provisions required for work permitting
+ Performs job hazard analysis \(JSA\)
+ Issues work permits to workforce
+ Performs quality assurance of work permits issued
+ Assists with work permitting closeout process
+ Intervenes to mitigate safety concerns
+ Performs written safety observations
+ Oversees subcontractors to work safely, complying with the requirements of the scope of work
+ Recognizes problems and anticipates future requirements
+ Participates in environmental, health and safety performance improvement efforts
+ Prepares reports or logs data as required
+ Maintains open lines of communication with site and corporate management personnel
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Minimum five years’ experience in related field technician or safety position
+ A related two\-year college degree may substitute for two years of the required experience
+ A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for four years of the experience
+ Or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
+ Previous "Hot" Safe Work Permit Writing experience required
+ Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment, Hazard Recognition and communication
+ Knowledgeable of Safe work practices, policies and procedures within all assigned areas such as electrical safety, confined space entry, elevated work, chemical handling, hot work such as welding, grinding, cutting, power and hand tool safety
+ Thorough understanding of equipment and technology used to perform work process, and information from the field
+ General knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
+ Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, confined space entry, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs\.
+ Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions
+ Ability to wear an air\-purifying respirator, as required by OSHA Standards
+ Requires enrollment in the medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals
+ Must pass a pre\-employment substance abuse test and random drug screens
+ Must possess valid Drivers license
+ Due to the nature and location of work, United States Citizenship or Naturalized Citizenship is required
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience in petrochemical industry
+ Current TWIC Card
+ Local Contractor Safety Basic Plus Training
