**Job Summary** AECOM is expanding its Strategic Highways team in Belfast to meet current and future workload\. Our Highways team currently has a vacancy for a Principal Engineer with experience of the design of major highways\.
The successful candidate should be chartered and will have proven project management experience delivering to quality, time and budgets\. The candidate will have experience of the management of teams in developing conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for major highway schemes\. Experience of statutory procedures and construction delivery through a variety of procurement routes is also desirable\.
The Belfast office has an established track record of successfully delivering major highway and infrastructure schemes\. Our modern office in Belfast has excellent transport links and accommodates a multidisciplinary transportation design center\. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload\. The team provides design, assessment, construction support and management services on a wide range of highways projects\. The team is involved in local, national and international highways projects with a variety of clients\. The services offered to our clients include feasibility studies, scheme designs and detailed designs\.

Job responsibilities:
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job/ Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standards\.
+ Prepare fee proposal and agree with Director for submission to client, including resources and program\.
+ Act as Project Manager as necessary\.
+ Manage the workload and technical and commercial management of a small team\.
+ Develop detailed methodologies, delegating preparation of tasks as appropriate\.
+ Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design\.
+ Assess staff requirements at each stage of the project\.
+ Identify data and information required for projects and appoint appropriate sub\-consultants, where necessary\.
+ Manage the design process and preparation of client reports, bringing together the contributions from other specialist areas of the business\.
+ Deliver projects within timescale, budget constraints and quality expectations\.
+ Determine the need for and attend project progress meetings\.
+ Set up projects and allocate budgets to work stages\.
+ Ensure financial data is up\-to\-date and co\-ordinate the timely and correct issuing of invoices and payment of debts\.
+ Work within financial and program constraints, and monitoring expenditure against the project fee\.
+ Assist in the preparation of monthly project workload and fee forecasts\.
+ Actively manage the billings and cash collection process on projects to minimize WIP and Debtors\.
+ Review internal processes for effectiveness and efficiency and suggest possible areas for improvement where necessary\.
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Significant experience highway technical design on major projects\.
+ Understanding of Health and Safety including CDM\.
+ Experience in using MX Road and AutoCAD\.
+ Experience of working on a variety of projects as project leader on some, with experience of dealing directly with clients\.
+ Experience of managing small teams\.
**Preferred Qualifications** • BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering\.
• Chartered Engineer and member of a professional institution\.
