Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources\.
**Job Summary** AECOM has an immediate opening forhas an opening for a Wildlife Biologist in our San Diego office\. Primary duties include protocol listed species surveys for avian, herp, mammal, and invertebrate species \(greatest emphasis on avian\), specializedfield studies, wildlife tracking, habitat assessments, electronic data collection, preparation of technical reports in support of CEQA/NEPA documents, and managing tasks\.
Ideal candidate has an M\.S\. and 1\-3 yrs of professional work experience or a B\.S\. and 3 to 6 yrs of professional experience in biological sciences, conservation biology, or a related field\. The ideal candidate possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective client communication and ability to work independently and on large multi\-disciplinary teams\. Necessary skills include field experience with local listed and other species of concern withinsouthern Calif\., a valid 10\(a\) permit or the qualifications to obtain a 10\(a\) permit for one or more of these species, and experience with regulatory requirements and endangered species consultations\. We are looking for a candidate permitted for or experienced with the following species and disciplines: California gnatcatcher, least Bell’s vireo, southwestern willow flycatcher, western yellow\-billed cuckoo, golden eagle and other raptors, burrowing owl, Quino checkerspot butterfly, listed fairy shrimp species, arroyo toad, red\-legged frog, desert tortoise, Pacific pocked mouse, Stephen’s kangaroo rat, general small mammal trapping, inventory studies, and nesting bird surveys\.
This position will involve predominantly involve task\-level management\. He/she will be responsible for projects that involve large complex sites with rough terrain\. He/she will work independently or within a multi\-disciplinary team of biologists, planners, wetland scientists and landscape architects\. This position works with a variety of clients and requires occasional travel\.
**Minimum Requirements**
+ A strong background in wildlife ecology and ecological processes, as well as experience implementing protocol surveys\.
+ Knowledge of native and non\-native fauna and experience identifying in field\.
+ Knowledge of major state and federal agencies \(e\.g\., USACE, USFWS, BLM, BOR, CDFW, RWQCB, and CCC\) and major regulatory frameworks \(e\.g\., NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, CFGC, CWA and CCA\)\. Knowledge of local government report formatting and content requirements \(i\.e\., Cities of San Diego, Escondido, Carlsbad, County of San Diego, etc\.\)\.
+ Knowledge of regional conservation planning \(i\.e\., MSCP, MHCP, MSHCP\)\.
+ Strong writing skills and experience completing survey reports, Biological Technical Reports, Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, Biological Assessments, and/or EIR/EIS sections\.
+ The ability to work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver\.
+ Play a supporting role in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects\.
+ Prior consulting experience strongly preferred, but non\-consultant candidates with relevant experience will be considered\.
+ Experience in California and southwest U\.S\. is preferred\.
**Preferred Qualifications** BS in Biology and/or Ecology or related field and 3\-6 years of professional experience, or advanced degree \(MS\) in related field and 1\-3 years of professional experience\.
