**Job Summary** Our Transportation team have a vacancy for an Associate Director with experience in leading the delivery of a broad range of traffic planning, engineering and management disciplines in the Traffic and Local Roads team in our Birmingham office\.
The Traffic and Local Roads team provides concept and preliminary design, network modelling, detailed design, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors plus supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface\.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:
• Centro
• Birmingham City Council
• Stoke Council
• Eastern Highways Alliance
• Transport for London
• Highways Agency
You will be chartered and will have proven team leadership, business development, project delivery and business management experience within a commercial environment\. The role would suit a self motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team\.
In addition to delivering work within the local office the role will occasionally involve working with other AECOM teams in the UK and Ireland\. We are therefore seeking candidates who are able to work flexibly across other AECOM offices as projects dictate to support the wider business\.
Further, the role offers opportunities to work in AECOMs wider UK European, Middle East, India and Africa regions\.
Key Responsibilities
• Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design\.
• Following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system act as a Project Director and Project Manager including monitoring financial performance\. Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided\.
• Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief\.
• Oversee the preparation of feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for traffic engineering schemes\.
• Oversee the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required\.
• Monitor team skills and ensure they are up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation\.
• Support senior management of Traffic and Local Roads team deputising for Traffic and Local Roads District Leader as required\.
• Manage career progression of line reports\.
• Actively recruit to grow the team\.
• Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM’s transportation division\.
• Development of Client relationships through business development being the key point of contact for meetings and liaison\.
• Working with colleagues to deliver marketing and business development objectives in both the local region and nationally\.
• Prepare detailed proposals, client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids\.
**Minimum Requirements** • a successful track record in the management and delivery of a portfolio of traffic engineering projects\.
• excellent technical and communication skills\.
• an ability to demonstrate high level of experience and expertise in some or all of the following areas:
o Traffic engineering/management design,
o Cycling and walking design,
o Traffic signal design,
o Bus priority and BRT,
o Road safety audits, analysis and design,
o Traffic signing and wayfinding\.
o Parking, road safety and public transport design\.
o Traffic Regulation Orders and parking,
o Traffic modelling software \(e\.g\. VISSIM, TRANSYT and LinSig etc\.\.\)
• a flexible approach to supporting project and business development activities across UK and Ireland plus wider AECOM geographies \(e\.g\. Continental Europe, Russia, Middle East, India and Africa\.\)
• demonstrable strength in business development and team leadership
• an ability to deal directly with clients and engage and influence at a senior level within client organisations\.
• a successful track record of delivery of bids and proposals
• a proven ability of managing and growing a team, with strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain a highly motivated project delivery team\.
• strong project delivery skills with an ability to effectively manage project commercial risks\.
• a good industry profile , the gravitas to represent AECOM with major clients\.
• Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable
o Detailed design and scheme delivery experience
o Urban Design/Streetscape\.
o Project Management qualifications \(e\.g\. PRINCE2\)
o CSCS Card holder\.
**Preferred Qualifications** • a relevant degree and will have appropriate Chartered status with membership of a professional institution\.
