**Job Summary** Our Transportation team have a vacancy for a Principal Highway Engineer with experience in the delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes in the Traffic and Local Roads team in our St Albans office\.
The Traffic and Local Roads team provides concept and preliminary design, network modelling, detailed design, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors plus supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface\.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:
• London Highway Alliance Contract
• Southwark Highways & Professional Services Contract
• Transport for London
• Suffolk County Council
• Hertfordshire County Council
• Eastern Highways Alliance
• Taylor Woodrow BAM Nuttall
You will be recently chartered or working to achieve this status and will have proven design, project management and team leadership experience delivering to quality, time and budget\. The role would suit a self motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team\.
In addition to delivering work within the local office the role will occasionally involve working with other AECOM teams in the UK and Ireland\. We are therefore seeking candidates who are able to work flexibly across other AECOM offices as projects dictate to support the wider business\.
Further, the role offers opportunities to work in AECOMs wider UK European, Middle East, India and Africa regions\.
Key Responsibilities
• Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design\.
• Following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system act as a Project Manager including monitoring financial performance\. Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided\.
• Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief\.
• Lead the preparation detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes
• Lead the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required\.
• Monitor team skills and ensure they are up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation\.
• Support Senior Management of Local Roads team\.
• Manage career progression of line reports\.
• Actively recruit to grow the team\.
• Prepare detailed client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids\.
• Develop new and existing client relationships\.
**Minimum Requirements** You will have:
• a successful track record in the management and delivery of a portfolio of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes\.
• excellent technical and communication skills\.
• an ability to demonstrate high level of experience and expertise in the following areas:
o Preliminary and detailed design including 3D design
o Applying relevant design standards including good working knowledge of DMRB
o Leading single and multi\-disciplinary projects as project manager/ task leader\.
o Preparation of technical reports and checking work/specifications of junior staff\.
o Liaising with clients, local authorities, utility companies etc\. to obtain necessary approvals\.
o Detailed design software \(e\.g\. MX, AutoCAD etc\.\.\)
• experience of team management including:
o technical development and mentoring of junior staff,
o ensuring the efficient resourcing of projects locally,
o line management and mentoring staff in the performance of their duties\.
• Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable
o Specialist traffic engineering knowledge\.
o Urban Design/Streetscape\.
o Project Management qualifications \(e\.g\. PRINCE2\)
o Highways asset management and maintenance\.
o CSCS Card holder\.
**Preferred Qualifications** A relevant degree and will be a Chartered Engineer or will be working towards an appropriate Chartered status with membership of a professional institution\.
