**Job Summary** Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for an **Engineer** with experience of bridge design, inspection and assessment schemes to join their busy Glasgow Structures team\. This is a new position and reflects expansion of the team\.
The successful candidate will have design, inspection and assessment experience together with some project management involvement\. They will have experience of working as part of a project team involved in bridge and other associated structures schemes from commission through to completion\. This will be on road or rail schemes in the UK\. The role will suit a self motivated individual looking to assist in leading teams and advance their career both technically and in project management as part of a dynamic team currently of 25 engineers and technicians but increasing\.
The Glasgow office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 25 years, mainly in Scotland but also throughout the UK\. Our modern office has multi\-disciplinary transportation design capability in highway and rail schemes and works closely with other disciplines from Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Building Divisions\. Due to recent major project wins we are expanding the team and require high level technical and leadership skills\. Recruitment of other support staff to meet ever increasing workload demands is also in hand\.
The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects\. Recent major wins for the team include rail infrastructure design and a 5 year commission for UK wide rail bridge inspection and assessment\.
Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international highway and infrastructure improvements\. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
• Rail bridge replacements for the electrification of the Edinburgh to Glasgow railway under the EGIP Enhancements contract\.
• CAFA Rail Bridge inspection and assessment\. Long term commission following previous similar CEFA and SAC commissions for employer, Network Rail\. The sites are throughout Scotland and the Glasgow team is working in association with Newcastle office team\.
• Rail bridge refurbishment contracts working with major railway contractors\.
• Framework contract with a major Scottish power generator, to assess the capacity of bridges on private access routes within its estate\.
Job Responsibilities:
The appropriate level of technical and project management experience in the majority of the tasks below is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities can be carried out to the necessary standard:
•Assist with project delivery of road and/or rail bridge and associated structures engineering schemes from feasibility through to detailed design, taking responsibility for the contribution of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate\.
•Preparation of Technical Approval documentation
•Design of road and/or rail structures
• Assessment of road and/or rail structures
•Structural inspections and reporting
•Client liaison
•Production of tenders including quality documentation and costings
•Being an active participant in achieving Professional Review\.
**Minimum Requirements** •Experience in road and/or rail projects\. Experience in both is not essential but would be advantageous\.
•Experience in working as part of a multi\-disciplinary team
•You will have high level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design and be able to assist in leading teams of graduate engineers in such projects\.
•You will have worked with a variety of clients such as national bodies and local authorities, together with major contractors
•You will be able to undertake project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation
•You will have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites\.
•You will have a good command of oral and written English
**Preferred Qualifications** •Masters Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent with experience\.
